Welcome!
The seaside Kentish town of Herne
Bay is home to its very own charming little 72 seat theatre, and the
award-winning drama society that own it. We are members of the Little
Theatre Guild of Great Britain, and affiliated with the Kent Drama
Association and Canterbury Arts Council. Every year, we aim to produce six
full length productions (including a pantomime, of course), and our
thriving youth theatre performs an additional two full length
productions each year. We also host a calendar of social events for our
members, and are pleased to welcome touring theatre companies to our stage
from time to time.
Our society was first
formed back in 1947, performing in various venues, until our 40th year
when we opened our
new theatre in Bullers Avenue. Having recently celebrated our 60th
anniversary, we are also celebrating the near completion of our Stage II
project to extend, update and renovate our lovely little theatre and after
two years of fundraising and hard work, and a final push when we received
a generous grant from the Big Lottery Fund, our project has finally come
to fruition in the form of new wheelchair access to the auditorium and
wheelchair facilities, a
new toilet block, bar area and
kitchen, and restructuring and decoration of the lighting and sound box
and foyer.
Our membership is constantly
expanding, and we're always happy to welcome new members to the society,
whether you'd like to tread the boards yourself, try your hand at
directing, get involved in the technical aspects of theatre or join our
front of house team, whether you're interested in set painting, costuming,
or just love theatre and would like to support a local society - we'd love
to hear from you! Check the upcoming events section for production
dates, upcoming auditions and social events. |
